Welcome to Week 2 Term 1

Image
Weekly Notices, Term 2, Week 10 Bonjour and welcome to Week 2. I think everyone is sick of the constant rain but the children seem to be coping with it well and fortunately, many morning tea and lunch breaks have been free of rain. The long-term forecast is for a dry and warm Spring so here's hoping. Please ensure tamariki are in the correct named Winter uniform. Some children do not have working headphones at the moment. We do have some spares in class but could parents and caregivers please ask children if they need a new pair of headphones purchased?   It is Cook Island Language Week this week. School production We had our first week practising for our school production and it looks like it is going very well. Mrs. Trask is doing a fantastic job as director and is organising the children beautifully. Bomb Threats Last week we saw a number of schools around New Zealand targeted by bomb threats. Please be aware that we are taking all possible measures to ensure staff and children

Friday Geometry

Image
Today we began exploring geometry, specifically 2D and 3D shapes. Mr Bach explained that 3D stands for 3 dimensions (up/down, forward/backwards and left/right) and 2D has only 2 dimensions. The children practiced naming different shapes in their groups and discussed the differences between each shape. Next week we will begin exploring the properties of these shapes and learning about how they are present in our everyday lives.

Week 10 Assembly

Image
Good evening parents and whanau,  your children were brilliant in our assembly today! They worked so hard to learn the Kapa Haka dance and the Cha Cha Slide, which they performed really well. It was lovely to see some of you there this afternoon, thank you for your support both at assembly and from home/work.  A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Aron for receiving the Principals Shield Award. Despite it being a very hard decision, the class agree that he is a very worthy recipient.  On a sad note, I didn't enjoy telling the children that I will be leaving at the end of week 6 next term. Thank you for your support and understanding as I embark on a new challenge. I have known Shelly Taylor for many years and I know she is going to be the most amazing replacement. I look forward to an epic final 6 weeks at St Marys next term! Have a wonderful break!  Sophie Bowie

Good evening and welcome to Week 10, the last week of term.  It has been a busy term with many activities and lots of progress made with learning.   Thank you to those who attended the Matariki dinner on Thursday night.  It is an event we look forward to and again, it was a big success.  Next year will be our 10th time putting this on.   We have enjoyed watching the children learning through play and would like to ask for help in collecting the following items if you have them lying around not being used.                    Boxes and recycling We all have recycling and the children love to use these materials in their artwork.  We always have the need for these materials. What is useful * Cereal Boxes * Egg cartons * Clean yoghurt containers  * Bottle tops. Milk, beer etc * Old newspaper, flyers, magazines etc * Fabric pieces * Wool-off cuts * Untreated wood off cuts If you have something that you are not sure of please check with the teachers, Other things we are colle

More Measurement during Maths

The children have learned a lot about measuring length over the term and today they were given the ultimate challenge of calculating perimeter!  They learned to measure the sides of different objects, e.g. books, lego pieces, tables and rooms. They then added the distances of each side together to get the perimeter around each object. They even worked together to find out the measurement of the whole field! Check out the pictures below.
