Here is the artwork we made of ourselves. We cut out the bodies, hair and clothing then coloured it in. Next we glued it together then added googly eyes. We hope you love it!

Welcome to Week 3 Term 1

Welcome to Week 3.  We had a wonderful week last week getting to know each other. This week we will be starting our Guided Reading groups.  Please encourage your child to read at home for 20 minutes each day.   Thank you for organising stationary so promptly. There is a backlog with some orders but we are sure they will be arriving soon. We do not have swimming this week, our turn will start in week 5.   Remember named sunhats every day.  Well done to those who have had them every day this week even though it rained. The Sacramental Programme starts today, thank you to the staff who have put up their hand to help run sessions on a Sunday afternoon. We have 65 students enrolled for the programme which is fantastic. Our School Mass is scheduled for this Friday. Fingers crossed for fine weather. The Mass will need to be outside so we are planning on having Mass on the school field at 9.00 am. Students will sit in their teams. If the weather is not fine ...

Thursday - Play Based Learning

Image
Kia ora whānau,  The children continue to enjoy our play based learning programme. There is a nice flow between the activities in the 3 classrooms, where the children are meeting different people and building new friendships. Whilst it looks a bit chaotic from the outside, there is some amazing learning, collaboration and critical thinking going on when you look closely. Check out some of the fun the children have been up to: "We've been drawing monsters. We watched a video on the iPad and copied the instructions"  "We built a boat out of the foam blocks" "We are doing a puzzle about the body" "We are looking at things up really close" "We are building a house with colourful windows"  Year 3 Kahikatea Team

First Day Back

We had a lovely first day back.  The children were happy to be with friends and spent the day exploring and investigating new toys and equipment.   Our swan plants have grown over the holidays and are covered in caterpillars.  The children are enjoying spotting them and watching Monarch butterflies laying eggs on the leaves.  These are definitely a firm favourite this year.

Welcome to Week 2 Term 1

Kia ora! A big welcome back to all families to the 2022 school year at St Mary's Rotorua. We trust that all parents, caregivers and children were able to have an enjoyable summer break and profit from the warm fine days we experienced. We hope that children are refreshed and ready for a great year of learning in Year 3. It was great to meet so many families last week at the Meet the Teacher sessions on Thursday and Friday. As we explained, Year 3 classes will be operating a bit differently from past years at St Mary's. We will be running a play-based learning programme in the mornings and Year 3 children will no longer be using their own Chromebooks in class. The three Year 3 classes of Room 15 (Miss Bowie) Room 16 (Mr Bach) and Room 17 (Mrs Tiedt) will be collaborating during play-based learning and in the teaching of reading and maths groups. As such, we will be operating as a separate team to the Year 4 classes in Middle School Kahikatea. Year 4 classes will be involved with...
